The Patterson School is sad to report that our oldest surviving alum, Mr. Marvin Walsh, passed away on
November 5, 2008.

Mr. Walsh graduated from TPS in 1925. After graduating with a mechanic’s degree, he went on to serve
as CEO of Safeway Trailways and president of the National Trailways Bus Association. His autobiography,
My Story: The Scenic Route, details his life and career.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Lenoir and daughter, Betty Jane Washington, of Lake Lure, NC, his
three brothers and three grandsons. The family requested memorials to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care
