Ida Dargan McMaster died August 15, 2009, peacefully in her sleep at home. Born September 22, 1920, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Henry Flinn Dargan and Elizabeth Barnwell Dargan. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. At Winthrop she served as president of the German Club, a social dance club. In 1941, she was selected as the Honorary Cadet Colonel of Clemson College. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Junior League of Columbia. She married John Gregg McMaster, Jr. in 1944 in Florence and they made their home in Columbia. She was the mother of Henry McMaster, SC Attorney General, who is an alumnus of The Patterson School in Lenoir NC.
Mrs. McMaster loved her family, her boys, the creek at Pawleys Island and her English bulldogs.
Mrs. McMaster is survived by Mr. McMaster and their six sons, all living in Columbia: John Gregg McMaster III (Judy Cook), Henry Dargan McMaster (Peggy McAbee), George Hunter McMaster, William Gourdin McMaster (Elizabeth Laffitte), Frank Barnwell McMaster (Debbie Harville) and Joseph Dargan McMaster.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren: John Gregg McMaster IV (Laurel Briggs), Henry Dargan McMaster, Jr., Mary Rogers McMaster, William Gourdin McMaster, Jr., Ida Dargan McMaster, George Hunter McMaster II, Joseph Dargan McMaster, Jr. and Eleanor Gourdin McMaster and one great-grandson, Shawn Caleb McMaster.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth Dargan Martin of Pawleys Island and Florence Dargan Fishburne of Walterboro and one brother, Henry Flinn Dargan, Jr. of Florence.
